Officials in the Town of Mulgrave have thrown their support behind the Allan J. MacEachen Port Hawkesbury Airport.
Federal and provincial officials are considering a proposal to help fund a new, $18 million airport in Inverness to service the Cabot Links and Cabot Cliffs golf courses; Port Hawkesbury town and Inverness Co. councillors and Port Hawkesbury airport reps have said two airports an hour apart isn’t sustainable.
After June’s regular town council meeting Monday night, Ralph Hadley, Mulgrave’s mayor, told The Hawk a second airport in the region doesn’t make sense.
“I thought it was ridiculous that they were going to do that,” he said. “Council did say that they would draw up a letter, and it’s gone out.”
Hadley said they’ve sent the letter to federal and provincial officials.
He said it’s an attraction to have Port Hawkesbury’s airport, and a lot of local companies use it.
