Antigonish’s new accessible ball field celebrates a weekend grand opening.
The new community field officially opens to members of the public Saturday.
The coordinator of Antigonish Challenger Baseball says they’ve already given it a test drive, but now they’re opening it up to the entire community.
Crouse tells The Hawk he’s happy the $475,000 project is finished.
“It’s a mixture of excitement and relief- I mean, it’s been four years (of) effort by a lot of people and a lot of groups, and it’s just exciting now that we can finally get on there and play,” he says. “(We can) show the community what the fuss is about, and hopefully get not just Challenger on there, but the whole community on the field playing in some sort.”
Crouse says he’s excited to have members of the whole community use the field.
He says it has everything they hoped it would.
“Once it was done, it was everything we dreamed of,” he says. “You kind of worried about what it’s actually going to look like, compared to what you pictured in your head, and it’s bang on.”
Crouse says they lost a few days of construction due to weather, but still completed work in about seven weeks.
He says the project also came in on budget.
