The outgoing MP for Cape Breton-Canso says it’s up to the local candidates to win this federal election.
Rodger Cuzner, who held the seat for the Liberals for 19 years but didn’t re-offer this time around, says things are tight, and the election is going to come down to local candidates and issues.
Cuzner tells The Hawk he’s not running, but he’s still been hearing from voters.
“They have some concerns with leaders of all parties,” he says. “I think this one will come down to a lot of local issues, and how candidates represent themselves on issues important to the voters.”
Cuzner says the race is still wide open.
He says he doesn’t think any candidate- in Cape Breton-Canso or Central Nova- has a clear enough lead to be comfortable.
“The numbers are pointing toward these two seats remaining Liberal- I wouldn’t be as confident of that,” he says. “People process when they step into that voting booth, they process what’s important to them.”
Cuzner says it’s up to the local candidates to convince voters they’ll fight for those important things.
He says he wouldn’t hazard a guess as to who will win the seat, or what party will form the next government.
We go to the polls across the country Monday.
