The president of the Antigonish Skatepark Association says it’s amazing to see the town’s park opened.
The fence came down around the Antigonish All-Wheels Skate Park last Friday.
Jason Mason tells The Hawk town staff gave him permission to announce the park was open on social media the same day.
“They still had a bit more finishing touches to do, so they wanted to keep the kids out, but by 3 o’clock they emailed me and said the kids had overrun the park,” he says. “As soon as I got there it was already full, it had been open minutes and the thing was full.”
Mason says he’s happy kids in the community finally have a place to skate.
He says the park a place for athletes, so they’re working to keep graffiti off it.
Mason says they’ve installed lights and are going to install webcams.
He says the webcams aren’t just to keep an eye on the park; they’ll show it off to the rest of the province.
