Town councillors in Antigonish have made some changes to allow a new business in the town.
They passed an amendment to their development agreement with Crombie REIT project reps at February’s regular town council meeting Monday night.
After, Laurie Boucher, Antigonish’s mayor, said it will allow a 2,200 square foot quick serve restaurant to built beside Sobeys in Antigonish Market Square.
“It’s an addition on to the existing Sobeys building now, to the western side of it- the part closest to the road,” she said. “It will be interesting to see what they come up with.”
Boucher said a drive-thru is not part of the proposal.
She said she doesn’t know what the restaurant will be, but it’s a good sign for the town.
“We are growing- we’re developing,” she said. “With all of the new developments we have going on in town, (we have) more people to patronize these businesses.”
Boucher said it just came to council, and she doesn’t know any timelines at this point.
She said she assumes construction will start as soon as possible.
