Antigonish Co. councillors say they have concerns with another intersection in the municipality.
They sent a letter regarding the intersection of New France Rd. and Hwy. 104 to their provincial counterparts.
After March’s regular municipal council meeting Monday night, Hughie Stewart, the deputy warden of Antigonish Co., said changes are needed.
“There’s a passing lane there- it’s a dangerous, dangerous intersection,” he said. “There’s been some pretty close calls at that intersection, and we get some reports on them.”
Stewart said the passing lane ends very close to the intersection, which makes it treacherous.
He said adding lanes could solve the problem.
“We think a turning lane would be the answer- we really do- and good lighting there,” he said. “We’re working all those things- I believe that it’ll come to pass.”
Stewart said they just sent a letter to Lloyd Hines, the province’s transportation minister and the MLA for Guysborough-Eastern Shore-Tracadie MLA, and Randy Delorey, Antigonish’s MLA, so it’s too soon to expect a response.
