The warden of the Municipality of the District of Guysborough says the cancellation of Stanfest will have a major impact on the entire region.
Organizers with the Stan Rogers Folk Festival have announced the 2020 edition of the summer event won’t happen as a result of COVID-19.
During April’s regular municipal council meeting, Janet Peitzche, a municipal councillor in the area, said that cancellation- and the likely cancellation of the Canso Regetta- would have a big impact on the Canso Arena.
Vernon Pitts, the municipality’s warden, says it’s goes well beyond the arena.
“It’s not necessarily just the arena in Canso, or the former town of Canso, or the Municipality of (the District of) Guysborough,” he says. “From Antigonish on down, everybody reaps the spinoffs from that type of festival.”
Pitts says hotels, restaurants and gas stations in the region all win during a large influx of tourists.
