A Quebecois police watchdog will investigate the killing of an indigenous man at the hands of RCMP.
Friends say Rodney Levi was the man killed by police on Friday evening.
Le Bureau des enqutes indpendantes issued a statement late Friday evening saying it was investigating the incident.
The release states that Mounties received a call to aid a person in distress who was wielding a knife around 8:00 p.m. Friday, and tracked him into a building.
Police say they tased the man several times, alleging he continued to charge them, before an officer shot him.
Levi was brought to a hospital where he died from the injury.
This is the second officer-involved killing of an indigenous person in the province in the last eight days, after the killing of 26-year-old Chantel Moore in Edmundston last week.
