The outgoing mayor of the Town of Mulgrave says he would have liked to have a race for council.
All four town council positions were acclaimed when only four candidates- Crystal Durling, Krista Luddington, Bob Russell and Tanya Snow- came forward before nominations closed Sept. 8.
Ralph Hadley, the town’s current mayor, tells The Hawk he was disappointed none of the candidates needed to campaign.
“I figure when you put your hat into the ring, there should be some challengers,” he says. “I was hoping that they would’ve had an election, but I’m also glad that we don’t have to re-advertise again to get somebody.”
Hadley says he has nothing but respect for everyone who put their name forward.
He says it’s important work.
“It’s not an easy job, but somebody has to step up and do it,” he says. “We are a town, and we need council.”
Hadley, who previously announced he’s not re-offering in the upcoming municipal elections, says he’s pleased there’s a race for mayor in the town.
Ron Chisholm, a current town councillor, and Lorne MacDonald, the town’s mayor before Hadley, will be on the ballot Oct. 17.
