COVID-19 has changed the face of StFX‘s X-Ring ceremony, but hasn’t slowed it down.
Murray Kyte, the university’s vice-president advancement, says it’s more important than ever.
Kyte tells The Hawk the X-Ring is more than a piece of jewelry.
“It’s the education that one experiences in terms of developing your mind (and) your spirit,” he says. “All the memories, all the ups and downs, the personal challenges and the triumphs.”
Kyte says it’s a representation of what it means to be a Xavierian.
He says that’s about giving yourself to the community, as well as personal growth.
“It represents academic achievement,” he says. “It also represents the journey and the learning that you’ve experienced.”
Kyte says a small, physically-distanced ceremony will be livestreamed from the MacKay Room stage at 2 p.m.
He says students will pick up their rings beforehand, and will put them on during the ceremony from wherever they’re watching.
