In Nova Scotia, Monday is Heritage Day.
Prior to 2015 it was called Family Day – the honoree that year was Viola Desmond.
Heritage Day honors a different person or event & is chosen by Nova Scotian school children.
Heritage day in 2021 will honor Edward Francis Arab.
Edward was the grandson of some of the first Lebanese immigrants to Halifax.
He graduated from Dalhousie University law school and practiced until he enlisted in the army which lead to his death fighting overseas for Canada in 1944.
