The man who helmed the StFX men’s basketball program for 46 years says it’s an honour to have a day celebrating his accomplishments.
Wednesday is “Coach K Day” at Saint Francis Xavier University.
Steve Konchalski says the COVID-19 pandemic meant this wasn’t the final season he expected, but he kept doing what he’s done for years, mentoring the young men on his team.
Konchalski tells the Hawk Morning Show he’s been touched by all the messages of support from former players.
“its really special. Those messages… have been really heartwarming,” he says. “I certainly appreciated each and every one of them and it just reinforces why I coached all those years… to build relationships and create friendships for life.”
Konchalski says he plans to spend his retirement working with the new national coaches association.
