Employees in the Municipality of the District of Guysborough will remain on a four-day work schedule.
Councillors approved a policy to keep the same four-day work week in place during April’s regular meeting Wednesday afternoon.
After, Vernon Pitts, Guysborough’s warden, said they’re getting good reviews.
“Our staff are very pleased with the process, council is very pleased,” he said. “We’re (of) the opinion we’re getting more bang for our buck hourly-wise (and) labour-wise- it’s good-good all around.”
Half the municipality’s staff members work 10-hour days Monday-Thursday; the other half work Tuesday-to-Friday.
Pitts said the schedule started during the pandemic, but it had already been in the works.
“It’s something council was going to do long before COVID reared its ugly head,” he said. “It’s just a different way of doing business- we’re out in front, we’re doing the best we can, and I think this is the best way to do it, more so now with the COVID situation.”
Pitts said they’ll revisit the policy in a year, but it will likely become permanent at some point.
