A petition against a proposed Antigonish Co. cell tower has more than 300 signatures so far.
Danielle MacDougall, the spokesperson for the community group fighting the location of the proposed tower, says the site- 1439 Havre Boucher Rd. in Frankville- overlooks several properties.
MacDougall tells The Hawk they’ve tried to get answers from Bell Aliant reps, but they aren’t satisfied with the answers they’ve received.
“Residents have been receiving standard answers in response; it’s not really giving them a sense of relief, and we’re not feeling our concerns have been mitigated through the consultation process,” she says. “The feeling in the community is definitely that there is a lot of opposition to the current placement of the proposed tower.”
MacDougall says a cell tower at that location is an eyesore that will drive down property values.
She says they want better cell service, but a tower shouldn’t be built in a residential area.
“Residents have been sharing their concerns with Bell and advocating the government to stop the cell tower from being constructed in their literal backyard.”
MacDougall says they were scheduled to meet with Bell Aliant reps Thursday evening.
She says the Zoom call was cancelled shortly before, and no other meeting has been scheduled.
