Leona Burkey, a native of L’Ardoise, Richmond County is known as “the singer” in those parts since the age of 8 or so after a lucky solo in the christmas choir.
Playing guitar and singing came as naturally as the ebb & flow of the tides while she grew up surrounded and influenced by the rich musical culture in Cape Breton.
In her early years as an emerging songwriter Leona carried her notebook and guitar across the country and back home again with a lovely batch of songs and stories to share.
With a fresh new record “Sitting Tight” (2020) building on earlier releases “The Margaret Marie EP” (2013) and “Wave Theory” (2015), Leona is hitting her stride as performer and songwriter, offering up a deep body of work chock-full of folk-rock fortitude delivered with her singular style and seasoned authenticity.
