After being a local voice on the radio for years in the Quad-Counties, Greg Morrow will be the new voice for Guysborough-Tracadie in the provincial legislature.
Morrow defeated Liberal incumbent Lloyd Hines Tuesday night by roughly 1500 votes. Hines previously held the riding for two terms, beginning in 2013.
Several Strait districts settled early for the PC’s, with Morrow jumping out to an early lead shortly after polls closed, a lead which he was able to sustain throughout the evening.
In speaking to 101.5 The Hawk on his election win, Morrow felt what made him successful in campaigning was hard work, saying his campaign was about reaching doorsteps in the biggest riding the province.
“We travelled everywhere, from Ecum Secum to Mulgrave, Morrow said. “We didn’t leave anything on the campaign trail, we went hard the entire time.”
Morrow says he heard a lot over six weeks while campaigning door-to-door in his riding.
“Healthcare obviously was the number one priority as a government, we’re going to have a lot to do there,” Morrow added. We’ve been up front and honest with people, and it’s not going to be cheap and it’s not going to happen overnight but we are willing to work on it because Nova Scotians are worth it.”
Morrow received just over 63% of the vote cast in the Guysborough-Tracadie riding.
Hines earned 1571 votes for the Liberals, with NDP candidate Matt Stickland a distant third with 247 and the Greens Gabriel Bruce with 77.
