After years of push-back, legal and regulatory hurdles, and delays the Alton Natural Gas Storage Project has been scrapped.
AltaGas, the company responsible for the project, made the announcement in a news release Friday.
The project was to store natural gas in caverns beneath the community of Alton and the surrounding Shubenacadie River estuary.
Company officials say they will soon begin discussing next steps to decommission the project with the provincial and federal governments, the Mi’kmaq, and other stakeholders.
