Excitement is swirling around a Dartmouth school with the prospect of a new name.
That’s according to Prince Andrew High School Principal, Craig Campbell.
He tells our newsroom the school is looking forward to finding a title that better reflects the community’s values.
“We want to come up with a name that’s consistent with our values and what we do here at PA,” he says. “We’re excited and we’re up for the challenge.”
The school was named after the birth of Prince Andrew in 1960.
The now-disgraced royal has been stripped of his duties amid allegations he sexually abused a teenage girl.
A six-person School Renaming Committee has been created, which includes student and staff representatives and community members.
Campbell says they’ll be reaching out to the community for suggestions.
“Hopefully by early spring we will be able to get our top five names, and then we’re going to let our students vote on that,” Campbell says. “Once they vote on it, we’re going to get the top three names and submit them to the HRCE.”
Campbell explains the Halifax Regional Centre for Education will give final approval.
The goal is to have the new name in place when the school year starts in September.
