A new program at a new pharmacy in Antigonish has had a very successful first week according to Co Owner Alicia Teasdale.
Teasdale Apothecary Company is the first pharmacy in Nova Scotia to offer prescriptions in a reusable glass bottle instead of single use plastic.
In fact, the whole focus of the pharmacy and store is to be more environmentally friendly.
Teasdale says the new program has already started gaining traction.
“It does seem to be gaining a little bit more traction and even the Pharmacy Association was intrigued to learn that we were offering it. So I think at the end of the day other pharmacies do look and see, you know, it is a bit of an up front cost, but it’s so worth it in so many ways.” She said.
According to Teasdale customers are jumping onboard with 35 signed up and 13 prescriptions already dispensed.
“We’ve had lots of folks coming to check us out and ask questions and learn about some of the eco friendly products we have in store but also about the compounding pharmacy in general and the glass vial program.” She added.
She says plastic bottles are still available and adds that the one’s they use are sourced more sustainably than other offerings.
