Protestors gathered outside the home of Nova Scotia’s top doctor on Sunday night over masking mandates in schools.
The group called “Freedom Nova Scotia” live-streamed the protest in a series of videos posted to Facebook as they camped out in front of Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Robert Strang’s home.
One of the demonstrators told police during the live stream they were there for answers.
“We just want to know why he is extending the mask mandate,” a woman who identifies herself as Morgan May says.”He didn’t answer the question in the briefing on Friday.”
She can be heard debating with another protestor whether or not their demonstration outside Strang’s home was impacting his kids amid questioning from police.
“We’re scaring his kid he said. His child is in the house, most likely in bed, or in the bath,” the protestors debate. “Oh the kid has no idea what’s going on, we’re so quiet. We were last time too.”
The demonstrators rolled out a sign on the pavement in front of Stang’s home, that read “Strangled” with an image of Nova Scotia hanging from a noose.
They displayed other signs including “Stop COVID Mandates Now” and “Unmask our Children.” Premier Tim Houston announced the move to keep masks in class on Friday.
Houston said the mandate would stay in schools until mid-April after concerns were expressed from health officials over their removal.
A group of doctors penned an open letter citing many reasons to prolong the masking mandate, including wanting more time to study the move in other provinces first.
