You may want to check that jar or package of peanut butter in your cupboard to see if it is affected by a recall.
Smucker Foods of Canada Corp. is recalling certain Jif brand peanut butter due to possible salmonella contamination.
The recall was triggered by a recall in another country, according to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.
Agency officials said there have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of these products in Canada.
“Recalled products should be thrown out or returned to the location where they were purchased,” the agency said in a statement.
As of Sunday, the recall list included 11 products sold nationally and online. The full list can be found by clicking here.
Officials said food contaminated with salmonella may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick.
Young children, pregnant individuals, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems may contract serious and sometimes deadly infections.
Healthy people may experience short-term symptoms such as fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea.
