King’s District RCMP announced that Central Kings Rural High School (CKRHS) had to go into lockdown on Monday after a student was threatened with a firearm.
At approximately 1:30 p.m., RCMP received a report of a 16-year-old male youth threatening to go to CKRHS to harm another student.
The 16-year-old is also alleged to have threatened the victim with a photo of a handgun that he sent via text.
At that point, CKRHS immediately went into lockdown and the Cambridge and District Elementary School, which is adjacent to CKRHS, went on hold and secure.
RCMP officers with Kings District RCMP, Kings District RCMP General Investigation Section, RCMP Southeast Traffic Services, and the Southwest Nova RCMP Major Crime Unit, immediately converged on the CKRHS and surrounding area.
They were able to locate the youth at 2:35 p.m. about 2 kilometers away from CKRHS, at which point he was taken into custody.
The male youth was wearing a backpack at the time of his arrest and a replica handgun was located inside the backpack.
He has been charged with Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose and Uttering Threats.
The youth appeared in Kentville Provincial Court today, however, the outcome of the proceeding was not released publicly.
