The Department of Natural Resources and Renewables will once again allow antlerless deer to be hunted in Nova Scotia, this year offering 4,785 antlerless tags.
That’s a slight decrease from last year when they offered 5,175.
Antlerless tags are required in order to bag a female deer in seven of the province’s twelve deer hunting regions. The other five deer hunting regions allow the hunting of either sex without the requirement for the antlerless tag.
Hunters are still limited to one deer per season, as the use of an antlerless tag also counts towards each hunter’s season bag limit, which is one across the province.
The antlerless tags are highly sought after by hunters, so DNR will have a draw for the available tags on July 22.
To be eligible, a hunter must be a resident of Nova Scotia, be eligible for a deer hunting license, have a valid Nova Scotia Wildlife Resources Card and be at least 16 years old by the end of the deer hunting season on December 10.
Applications to enter the draw can be made online, the application fee is $9.25.
