A new pilot project is underway in Pictou County.
“Discover the Strait,” will provide support for fishermen that want to provide a visitor experience for tourists in the Northumberland Strait area.
Linda Townsend, the projects creator says its not to late for fisherman to jump on board. Adding that they will continue to work with interested individuals to get vessels ready for the summer 2023 launch. Townsend was inspired to create the initiative out of her own passion for boating on the strait and the potential she sees for marine based recreation and cultural experiences in the area.
Sean Fraser, Minister of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship and MP for Central Nova stated that he is excited about the new business opportunities this project will create for the local fishing community and the new tourism opportunities that will come as a result, noting that the Strait area offers fantastic scenery, outstanding hospitality, and endless options for exploring
The initiative received funding from the federal government’s tourism relief fund, a total of $116.775 as well as endorsements and support from destination Eastern and Northumberland Shores Tourism Association, Transport Canada, and the Nova Scotia Fishing Sector.
