Cape Breton Highlands National Park welcomed a new artist to their Artists in Residence program. Toronto based artist Erika Germain began her residency on October 1st and will finish the program on November 12th.
Germain has a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Emily Carr University of Arts and Design graduating valedictorian and received a Master of Fine Arts from Cornell University. “I am excited to be able to live and create in the beautiful Cape Breton landscape, exploring through my work theme of community and connection within the welcoming local environment here in Ingonish.” stated Germain
For the past five years, the Artist in Residence program has provided an opportunity for professional artists to focus on developing their work within quiet and natural surroundings. MP Jaime Battiste says this program is an amazing opportunity and believes that artists like Geramin will find inspiration in Northern Cape Breton with the breath-taking fall colours and reflective atmosphere.
Executive Director for the Cape Breton Centre for Craft and Design Lori Burke says providing exposure to the arts in a rural Cape Breton community is important for all residents and is pleased with the continued success of the program.
