Our MP Mike Kelloway announced a total of $340,556 for two community projects on Cape Breton Island.
This funding comes from the Canada Community Revitalization Act, and this will help We’koqma’q First Nation install signs to display special events, community information, and ads promoting local attractions and businesses. The funding will also support Potlotek First Nation to create an outdoor recreation area in Saqmaw Park including a new accessible play structure. It will also serve as a shared community space for counselling sessions and Mi’kmaw language courses. Minister Ginette Petitpas Taylor says investing in public spaces will allow the two communities to revitalize their economies, boost tourism, and give residents a place to come together.
The CCRF was launched in June 2021. The fund provides $500 Millon over two years to Canada’s regional development agencies to invest in shared and inclusive public spaces. The Government of Canada is committed to investing in shared spaces to make them safer, greener, and more accessible.
