Barry Mackenzie, the curator of the Antigonish Heritage Museum was awarded with a Platinum Jubilee Medal at a ceremony in Halifax last week. In recognition for his volunteer work with the Monarchist League of Canada a non-profit organization that seeks to foster a better understanding of the role of the monarchy in Canada.
Mackenzie says winning the award was very humbling and this award was extra meaningful as he is one of the last recipients to be commemorated under the Queens Reign. As a volunteer he works as a spokesperson talking to media outlets about Royal Occasions and other important stories about the Royal Family.
The museum commemorated Queen Elizabeth II with a special temporary exhibit that closed a few weeks ago. This showcased the history of the Queens Reign in Canada and celebrated her 70 years on the throne.
