More funding is being invested by the Province of Nova Scotia to support healthcare worker recruitment and retainment in the Quad Counites.
Cape Breton South Recruiting for Health, an organization that serves The Town of Port Hawkesbury and The Municipality of the County of Richmond will receive $74,287 to run promotional campaigns and community events to encourage healthcare workers to practice in the region.
The programs director Gina MacDonald says their organization works hard to support healthcare professionals in Richmond County and Port Hawkesbury and showcasing these communities and helping healthcare workers feel welcome and appreciated is key to attracting new people and ensuring that they want to stay.
“The dedicated volunteers and staff of Cape Breton South Recruiting for Health represent many organizations in our community with one common goal: ready and reliable healthcare in Cape Breton South.” says Richmond MLA Trevor Boudreau. “The residents of Richmond County and Port Hawkesbury shouldn’t have to cross the causeway or head to Sydney to get the basic healthcare they need.”
The Municipality of the County of Inverness will receive up to $71,500 to cover the cost of promotional campaigns and community events to attract and keep health providers along with a new program to encourage public school students to consider a career in healthcare.
Municipal Warden Bonny MacIsaac welcomed the announcement saying it’s important for Nova Scotia to continue to attract and retain healthcare workers more than ever. She looks forward to collaborating with the province to work on localized solutions to support the healthcare employment sector and advance positive outcomes for the county.
The funding comes from the Office of Healthcare Professionals Recruitment Community Fund. A $2 Million investment that is part of the provinces strategic plan to improve healthcare.
A total of 28 groups across the province applied for this funding and more successful applicants will be announced soon.
