Hope in the search for Kenley Matheson.
The Acadia University student and Cape Bretoner was last seen walking in Wolfville in 1992.
Over 30 years later, RCMP are preparing to search an area on Melanson Mountain for human remains.
In May, a group search led by a national journalist and a cadaver dog indicated an area of interest on the mountain.
Kenley’s sister Kayrene Matheson says she’s been hoping for a miracle for a long time.
“It’s something that you don’t know how you’ll feel until it comes forward. This is a miracle, it feels like something spiritual has happened for this to align,” said Kayrene.
She hosted walks through the area and around the Canso Causeway earlier this month, participants wore T-shirts to honour Kenley.
“We wanted to honour and remember his courageous spirit. To know that his remains might be on that mountain, it is heartbreaking, but it has been extremely healing for our family. It’s something that’s taken us a step closer to finding out what happened.”
Kayrene now lives in Arizona, and says she’ll return to Nova Scotia once the results of the search are known.
RCMP recently released a timeline of events in the search for Kenley.
Kenley’s story was featured in the Amazon Prime documentary ‘Missing Kenley’ in 2022.
