The Ecology Action Centre aren’t the only ones pressing the province about the Coastal Protection Act.
Several municipalities have written a joint letter, asking why the Houston government hasn’t implemented it yet.
The letter from Bridgewater, Clark’s Harbour, Digby, Lunenburg, Kentville and Pictou County states that the province has to step up on behalf of all Nova Scotians.
The province is wrapping up another round of public consultations, and hasn’t committed to implementing the plan before the next election.
The municipalities have called the delay irresponsible and unacceptable.
They say it unloads costs on municipal units, and forces them to have to pass their own by-laws in the face of severe weather events and climate change.
6 other municipal units sent their own letters to the province.
Recently, the EAC made a similar call, demanding the province to move on the issue.
