The Strait Pirates Junior B Hockey Club, who are about to celebrate their 60th Anniversary Season beginning this fall, have signed Jesse MacLean to spend the next two seasons behind the Pirates bench as head coach.
MacLean took over the position earlier this year on an interim basis and leaves behind his previous position as head coach of the Cabot Highlanders U16AAA hockey team.
“Obviously, I’m incredibly excited to move into a permanent position with the Pirates, and look forward to getting to work with their organization. I can’t wait to get to work on next years edition of the Pirates, but it goes without saying that I’m so thankful to Danny and the entire Highlanders group for believing in me, and giving me the opportunities they have, including allowing me to step into the interim coaching role with the Pirates this spring. Without their support, none of this could have happened.” commented MacLean.
Jesse brings to the Pirates a well-honed hockey mind, and an ability to connect well with the players. “I think we’re really just starting to see what Jesse is capable of with the positive changes he brought to our organization this spring, and despite a disappointing playoff result, we saw the group come together as teammates, and grow immensely under his leadership,” commented David Morgan, team president, “he’s just getting started, and now we will see what Jesse and our staff can put together for our 24/25 roster.”
The Pirates have recently announced the signing of rookie skaters with more announcements to come in the coming weeks and months.
