Police in Halifax are confirming tragic details related to the death of a 19-year-old woman who died at a Walmart in Halifax.
In an update Tuesday, police revealed the employee was found in a walk-in oven in the bakery section of the store on Mumford Road.
Officers were called to the Walmart on Saturday at around 9:30 p.m. after she was found.
Police have not confirmed the cause of death and say the investigation is complex and involves several partner agencies and may take a significant amount of time.
Investigators are working with the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service and Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) to determine how she died, according to a social media post from Halifax Regional Police.
Security could be seen outside the entrance the past few days and yellow police tape surrounds the front doors.
“We urge the public to be mindful of sharing speculative information on social media. Please be aware of the impacts that speculation could have on family, colleagues and loved ones of the woman.” Halifax Regional Police stated in a release.
In an emailed statement to our newsroom, Walmart said they are heartbroken at what happened and offered condolences to the employee’s family.
They’ll also have on-site support, including grief counselling, and 24/7 virtual care for employees.
They said the store is temporarily closed as police investigate the incident.
