In addition to the special weather statement that was issued yesterday for most of Nova Scotia, Environment Canada has now issued a winter storm watch for all of Cape Breton.
Winter storm watches are issued when multiple types of severe winter weather are expected to occur together.
For Cape Breton, several hours of heavy snow and blowing snow are expected on Thursday. A period of ice pellets and then rain are expected overnight into Friday morning. Warnings will be issued this afternoon.
For Mainland Nova Scotia, precipitation will begin as snow near mid-day Thursday and transition to ice pellets and periods of freezing rain in the afternoon. 5 cm of snow is expected except for northern areas where up to 10 cm is possible. A changeover to rain forecast over southern sections of the province late in the day.
