First, the good news: 34 days until Spring.
The not so good news, nasty weather is between us and the tulips.
A freezing rain warning has been issured for Mainland Nova Scotia and a winter storm warning for Cape Breton plus a wind warning for Northern Inverness County.
Here is what we can expect today as the weather arrives this afternoon.
For Cape Breton, several hours of snow will be followed by a change over to ice pellets. A brief period of freezing rain is possible after midnight before a changeover to rain.
For Antigonish & Guysborough Counties, precipitation will begin as snow from west to east this afternoon and transition to ice pellets and periods of freezing rain in the late afternoon and early evening. A change over to rain is expected near midnight.
Snowfall/ice pellets this afternoon will be close to 5cm with another 2cm this evening for the Mainland and 10-15cm for Cape Breton except up to 30 for Victoria County.
It’s also noteworthy that the temperature will rise to +6 before falling again – the wind chill Friday afternoon will be near -20.
We will also have some strong wind gusts across the Quad Counties. 50-60km/hr except up to 80km/hr for Northern Inverness County today. For tonight, wind gusts 70-80km/hr except gusting to 160km/hr from Margaree Harbour to Bay St. Lawrence.
For Friday, another 5cm of snow will fall for Southern Inverness County and up to 10cm for Northern Inverness County (15cm for the Highlands)
