
King Charles III’s Coronation Medal from canada.ca
On Saturday, 4 local residents will receive the King Charles III Coronation Medal at a ceremony held at the Port Hawkesbury Civic Centre.
The King Charles III Coronation Medal is awarded to people who have made a significant contribution to Canada or to a particular province, territory, region or community of Canada or have made an outstanding achievement abroad that brings credit to Canada.
Congratulations to:
Dawn Beaton who has been involved with the Celtic Colours International Festival for nearly 16 years. In her capacity as an artistic director, she has been a member of the festival’s team, programming the annual shows. As a violinist and Cape Breton step dancer, Beaton is an advocate for the arts and has taught fiddle and step dance both locally and internationally, from St. Anns in Cape Breton to Gairloch, Scotland.
Annabel Butts and Mary Johnston have both been dedicated volunteers within the community for decades, including their involvement with the local Port Hawkesbury Food Bank since its inception in 1991. They have been helping to fight hunger and supporting individuals and families in need in the Strait area for over 30 years.
Billy Joe MacLean was first elected to Port Hawkesbury town council in 1962. From then until his retirement 2016, MacLean represented and served his community in several capacities for 54 years, including as a town councillor, provincial MLA, cabinet minister and as the longtime mayor of Port Hawkesbury.
There will be a ceremony on Saturday at the Port Hawkesbury Civic Centre’s Shannon Studio at 1:30pm and is open to everyone.
