The multi-agency search for a child who fell into the water in Guysborough County has been suspended.
RCMP say crews were dispatched to Cooks Cove around 1:40 p.m. Thursday after a report that a child had fallen into the water while fishing with a man and another child. The man entered the water immediately to rescue the child but was unsuccessful.
Multiple fire services, EHS lifeflight, Ground Search and Rescue teams from Pictou County, Strait area and Inverness County, along with Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Joint Rescue Coordination Centre, civil air search and rescue association and multiple RCMP units were on scene throughout the weekend.
In an update on Sunday, RCMP say, “There is no information to suggest that the child got out of the water safely and the extensive search efforts have not resulted in information that would enable searchers to identify a specific search location for the child’s remains.”
Police say the search was suspended Saturday at 5 p.m. Any further search efforts would resume by air at a later date.
RCMP say their thoughts are with the child’s loved ones and the community at this difficult time.
