One Cape Breton couple says they will be able to retire a little sooner after a big lotto win.
Deborah and Amedee Larade of Cheticamp won $1 million on March 1, in lotto 6/49 thanks to a free ticket.
In a media release, Amedee said he earned the ticket from the last draw that he checked.
“As soon as I scanned it, the screen went white and said it was a major prize winner,” said Amedee. “When I saw the screen, my heart started pounding.”
He then raced home eager to share the news with his wife, Deborah and asked her to sit down.
“I could hear his voice quivering, so I asked him if I should call 911,” said Deborah. “He said, ‘no, this is good news!'”.
How it works
The draw takes place every Wednesday and Saturday, with two, multi-million-dollar jackpots available to be won.
The classic jackpot is $5 million, where the Gold Ball jackpot is set at $10 million, but can be more than $60 million.
A winner is guaranteed with the Gold Ball jackpot, on every draw – a white ball will get you $1 million or the growing Gold Ball jackpot.
On March 1, 2025, a white ball was drawn.
What now?
The Larades do not have any major plans for the money but say it does give them financial freedom.
“This gives us the option of doing different things if we choose to,” said Deborah.
“Right now, I’m still in a dream.”
