A local theatre company says they are thrilled to be getting support from Victoria County to help with renovations for the Greenwood United Church.
Theatre Baddeck will receive $100,000 to create the Greenwood Arts Centre.
This is the third major funding announcement for the project.
In a news release, co-Artistic Producer Hannah Ziss says it’s amazing to have the municipality as the fourth partner on the project alongside the province and federal government.
“Victoria County will feel the most impact from this project and we are so happy that they see the benefit of our mission. We are so very grateful for their support,” says Ziss.
Phase one of the renovations made the building barrier-free with improved fire and life safety, three bathrooms, upgrades to power and plumbing as well as a bar area.
“For our 2025 season we will be bringing in seating and lighting to the performance hall,” says Ziss. “And we are very good at this! It’s what we’ve been doing for 10 years at our previous location, and we are very proud of the transformative spaces we’ve created as a result. The set designs for our summer season this year are no different and audiences are in for a treat. We’ll have seating on all three sides of the stage to create a hugely immersive atmosphere.”
Installing the final washroom, the sound and projection suite, tech booth and a raised seating bank were part of phase two.
The second phase is a big task, and fundraising is ongoing to reach $150,000 with the help of their Doors Open Campaign launched earlier this year.
