Today is Amber Alert Awareness Day.
The Alert System is used in partnership with police, media outlets and the public.

It is used to raise awareness in the community about a lost child involved in a serious abduction case, in the hope they return home.
It all began when 9-year-old Amber Hagerman was abducted and murdered in Arlington, Texas in January of 1996.
That October, the Amber alert plan launched and has recovered at least 1,000 children globally.
In Nova Scotia, there were 23 alerts just last year.
The alert system has been used in used in our province since May of 2004
