Many Canadians will be shocked and appalled as one of Canada’s most notorious killers has been moved to a medium-security prison.
Paul Bernardo was serving a life sentence at Millhaven Institution, a maximum-security facility near Kingston, Ontario, when recently he was moved to a prison with more lenient living conditions in Quebec.
Conservative Leader Pierre Polievre says it’s outrageous.
“The government should review any powers it has to reverse this ridiculous decision. Mr. Bernardo is a monster and he belongs in a maximum-security,” Polievre said.
Meantime, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said it’s up to Public Safety Minister Marco Mendicino to get to the bottom of it. Mendicino said in a statement the decision to transfer Bernardo is shocking and incomprehensible. He added that would address the decision directly with CSC Commissioner Kelly.
Bernado was convicted of kidnapping, torturing and murdering two teenage girls in the early 1990’s.
Our thoughts are with the families of Kristen French and Leslie Mahaffy, and everyone affected by Paul Bernardo's horrific crimes.
