Over 20 fire departments were called to assist with a barn fire at a turkey farm that broke out in Lower Cunard on Wednesday morning around 7:00 a.m.
Around 9,000 juvenile turkeys were killed in the fire while another 9,000 mature turkeys were safely rescued.
Firefighters decided to use an excavator to destroy the burning barn, to limit its spread to other buildings, which was successful but resulted in a complete loss of the barn that was on fire.
The majority of firefighters have since left the scene, however, a few are remaining on-site to investigate the cause of the fire, which is still unknown.
