Residents of Nova Scotians will be getting a cash rebate to offset the new carbon tax. The “Climate Action Incentive” payment will come every 3 months by cheque or direct deposit. It is tax-free and the objective is to help individuals and families offset the cost of the federal pollution pricing. You can read more here and here.
There is no income threshold that you need to be under. Everyone who filed taxes will be eligible.
Nova Scotians can expect their first quarterly rebates to be in the amount of:
- $248 for a family of four
- $124 for the first adult
- $62 for a second adult
- $31 for each child
There is also a guide here that you can use to determine your rebate amount based on your family.
The first payments will be issued between July 14 and July 21. If you don’t have direct deposit, it could take up to 10 business days to get a cheque in the mail.
If you have a spouse or common-law partner, only one will get the credit for the family. The credit will be paid to the spouse or common-law partner whose tax return was filed first.
