Yellowstone fans rejoice! We at last have a date for the end of the series!
The first half of season 5 was released in November of 2022 and then…..nothing. It all came to a halt due to the writers strike and, allegedly, disagreements between Kevin Costner and show creator, Taylor Sheridan.
As it stands now, it seems more and more likely that Kevin Costner will not return to the show which will require some fancy writing to explain his absence.
The second half the 5th season (which will be the end of the series) will premiere in November 2024. When that season concludes, the story will continue with yet another spinoff, called 2024. That will start where Yellowstone ended (sans Kevin Costner)
A new prequel series called 1944 will tell the story of the Duttons during that timeline.
We may see Matthew McConaughey cast as a character on one of the shows as well. Show creator Taylor Sheridan has said that he has been “in talks” with him to join the franchise.
Previous spinoffs, 1883 (my favorite) starred Tim McGraw and Faith Hill and 1923, starring Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren.
We are still waiting on the conclusion of the 1923 spinoff. It is intended to be 2 seasons and only 8 episodes have been released to date. Further filming has been delayed due to the writers strike.
