It’s the 40th Anniversary of the IWK Telethon.
To celebrate, the IWK foundation is hosting an entire weekend of giving.
As of Friday evening, the foundation says so far they have raised $254,025.50.
They say it will go toward much-needed funds for the IWK to purchase equipment, while patients share stories reflecting on the past 40 years.
This year the funds helped purchase vital pieces of equipment including syringe infusion pumps.
These pumps deliver small amounts of life-saving medication, fluids, and nutrition to pediatric patients.
The Radiothon was Friday until 6 p.m., the Live Tribute Show is Saturday, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., and the Telethon for Children is Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
They add on their website, that, “Big plans are underway to make Telethon 40 our best show yet. We are preparing some must-see updates where we will follow-up with some familiar faces from past broadcasts, spotlight longtime IWK community donors and supporters, and share some moving new patient stories.”
Last year, the telethon raised over $7 million.
The IWK is the largest children’s hospital in the region.
