You might recall that a few years ago, a horror movie featuring Winnie the Pooh as the main character was released. This was possible because Winnie the Pooh has entered the public domain!
You’d be amazed at how much is now “up for grabs.” Essentially, public domain means that anyone can use the creative work without needing to pay for it.
Here are some new works of art that have entered the public domain as of 2025!
- Popeye by E. C. Segar as he appeared in the “Thimble Theatre” comic strip “Gobs of Work”
- “Tiptoe Through the Tulips,” music by Joseph Burke, lyrics by Alfred Dubin
- “Singin’ in the Rain,” music by Nacio Herb Brown, lyrics by Arthur Freed
- “Blackmail,” directed by Alfred Hitchcock, (his first movie with sound)
- “The Karnival Kid,” Mickey Mouse’s first talking appearance and when he first wore his white gloves
Do with this info what you will!
