Port Hawkesbury town councillors have approved a $500 dollar grant for reps with the Strait Richmond Palliative Care Society.
Brenda Chisholm-Beaton, the town’s mayor, says they asked staff members to review how much they’ve given in the past, and they wanted to keep that number consistent.
After Thursday’s special council meeting, Chisholm-Beaton told The Hawk they’d ideally be able to contribute more money to the group in the future.
“Palliative care is so very important and we would absolutely love to give more, and hopefully in the future, we may be able to do that,” she said. “We have a small pocket of money that we have put aside for supporting regional projects and internal projects as well.”
Chisholm-Beaton said physician recruitment and retention efforts will be continuing with municipal and First Nations leaders across the island throughout the summer.
