There’s a new warden in Richmond Co.
Brian Marchand became the municipality’s new warden during April’s regular municipal council meeting Monday night.
He replaces Jason MacLean, who stepped down due to a number of council issues April 8.
After Monday’s meeting, Marchand told The Hawk it’s not the ideal position, but he had no choice but to accept.
“I’m not going to say that I’m super delighted, but I was nominated, so I accepted it,” he said. “I’ll take the challenge for the next year-and-a-half, I guess.”
Marchand was acclaimed as warden following the last municipal elections in 2016, and was replaced by MacLean in a vote in Oct. 2018.
There is no deputy warden- Alvin Martell was nominated for the position, but did not accept, and no one else was nominated.
Marchand said he’s never seen that before in his 10 years on council.
“We will certainly have to find out exactly what the process is to fill that position, because we will have to do that.”
Marchand said their chief administrative officer and municipal lawyer will investigate and determine how they move forward.
