You might notice a lot of kids wearing pink Thursday.
Students and staff members in the Strait Regional Centre for Education are taking part in Stand Up Against Bullying Day.
Deanna Gillis, the SRCE’s coordinator of communications, says it’s a day to show support for safe school communities by wearing pink.
Gillis tells The Hawk it helps create an inclusive culture in schools.
“By sharing in the day and supporting one another, we can create and maintain a safe and welcoming learning environment for our students,” she says. “It reinforces our messaging in the class- and out in the school community- about being good to one another.”
Gillis says it’s about exposing the kids to kindness as an attitude.
She says the day helps everyone think about bullying.
“It brings us all together with one focus in mind,” she says. “The focus is on promoting healthy, respectful, and welcoming learning environments, and it gets everyone sharing in the same day.”
Gillis says school officials will hold events to teach kids about inclusion and acceptance throughout the day.
