An author from Guysborough Co. says he’s written a book as part of his ongoing mission to explore and promote his- and the region’s- Acadian heritage.
Jude Avery says Larry’s River is the least-known Acadian community in the province, but he’s been working to change that.
He says he’s spent nearly 30 years working to celebrate the area’s Acadian heritage and collect the history of Acadian settlement there.
Avery tells The Hawk that’s why he wrote “The Forgotten Acadians.”
“[The] story is how a small area of Guysborough Co. is Acadian, but most people did not realize that there were Acadians here,” he says. “We’re isolated- we’re off of the Trans Canada Highway, we’re not on the Cabot Trail, we’re not on Cape Breton Island, so we miss all that tourist traffic.”
Avery says the book is the first time the history of Guysborough Co. Acadians has been told this completely, and by an Acadian living in the community.
