A lobster fisherman from Inverness Co. has received the province’s highest recognition for bravery.
Elijah Watts of Port Hood was awarded the Medal of Bravery at a ceremony in Halifax Wednesday morning.
Watts, father Hugh Watts, and Glen MacDonald were fishing out of Murphy’s Pond in Port Hood when their nine-metre boat capsized less than 100 metres from shore in May 2018.
All three were thrown overboard; Watts, who was 18 at the time, managed to pull his father and MacDonald to shore, but they both died.
40 people have received the award since its inception in 2008.
